COCKTAIL RECIPE: KARL’S PUNCH
Our gaseous local hero joins the fight against Scurvy with Karl's Punch, a tangy take on classic tiki flavors. #NoScurvyAtFleetWeek #ALittleOffshore
Ingredients
1½ oz. Unsinkable Rye
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
½ oz. orange Curaçao
½ oz. fresh orange juice
½ oz. spiced Demerara syrup (or just some simple syrup and powdered nutmeg)
Method:
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds to chill.
Strain over fresh ice in a chilled rocks glass.
Garnish with an orange flag (slice and cherry).
Spiced Demerara Syrup (Yield: ½ qt.)
Ingredients
1 ¼ cups Demerara sugar
¾ cups water
2 ea. cinnamon sticks
2 ea. Cloves
¼ tsp. grated nutmeg
Method:
Combine the sugar and water in a medium-sized pot.
Bring to a simmer and stir until the water and sugar are fully incorporated.
Add cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg and simmer for 5–10 minutes, until fragrant.
Remove from the heat, strain, allow to cool, and keep refrigerated to store.
