CHOCOLATE LIQUEUR COCKTAILS, PART 1: MARTINI + OLD FASHIONED
Stumped with what to do with that new bottle of Unsinkable Chocolate Liqueur? We’ve got loads of ideas, natch, and here are a couple of classics to get you started…
THE UNSINKABLE CHOCOLATE MARTINI
Meet the Sausalito Liquor Co. Unsinkable Chocolate Martini—where decadence gets a little rowdy. This is not your typical chocolate syrup sugar bomb – no whipped cream, no heavy sweeteners, no nonsense. This is a velvety, boozy masterpiece with just enough edge to keep things interesting.
Unsinkable Chocolate Liqueur is made with the heaps of excellent TCHO Chocolate and the result is a crème de cacao that’s ridiculously drinkable and easy to mix. Put it into this take on the chocolate martini for a drink that’s delicious, easy to make and keeps ‘em coming back for seconds.
Ingredients
2 oz. Vodka
1 ½ oz. Unsinkable Chocolate Liqueur
½ oz. Dry vermouth
Method
Add all ingredients to your favorite cocktail shaker or anything else you have lying about that is roughly cylindrical and can reliably contain liquids while you shake them vigorously.
Add a couple handfuls of your coldest ice and shake with reckless abandon until your hands freeze to the sides of the shaker.
Strain into a chilled coupe glass or maybe even a highball glass with a chunk of fresh ice.
VARIATION: Swap the vodka for Marin Coastal Gin and dial back the vermouth to .25 oz or a heavy bar spoon
CHOCOLATE OLD FASHIONED
The Chocolate Old Fashioned proves that even time-honored recipes can harbor hidden depths and untold secrets. This isn’t dessert or some sugary spin on something familiar. Instead, this cocktail balances bold whiskey with a touch of chocolate liqueur, adding a subtle, dark twist to the classic. The orange oils cut through the richness, making this Old Fashioned variation dangerously smooth.
Ingredients
2 oz. Unsinkable Bourbon
3/4 oz. Unsinkable Chocolate Liqueur
2 dashes King Floyd’s Chocolate bitters (or your favorite chocolate bitters)
2 dashes orange bitters
Orange twist, for garnish
Method
In a mixing glass, saturate the sugar cube with both types of bitters and the muddle until mostly dissolved.
Add the bourbon and chocolate liqueur.
Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for about 30 seconds until well-chilled.
Strain into a rocks glass over a particularly bulbous ice cube.
Express the orange peel over the drink and drop it in.
VARIATION: Skip the sugar cube if you prefer a less sweet Old Fashioned. Just start with Step 2.
